About Our Former House

UPDATE!! We sold this house the fall of 2013 and are now working on our new, 100 year old home!

12-02-2011  Our House…

We bought our house in 1996, it was built around 1985.  So yep, you guessed it, like a lot of homes built during that time period, it wasn’t beaming with character.  We bought it first and foremost because of the setting.  The site is gorgeous, off a private road with a trout steam running through the back.  And the house had good bones.  The main layout was pretty good with enough bedrooms to house our family.

At the time it basically had 4 bedrooms, although two of those were in the lower level which wasn’t really finished.  It had cold concrete floors, and some walls were sheet-rocked but mostly just stud-walls. Oh and the lower level had seepage problems with some rotted wood in the lower level to prove it.

In the past 15 years I’ve been transforming this 1980-something-bland-house into a home filled with character…from the top to the bottom, inside and out.

My goal was to create character in this bland house, by using a lot of creativity, always think outside-the-box, using inspiration with found objects, and never be afraid to try something, but have a final goal for the whole house in mind so I’m not “doing” to just “un-do”.

So this is what I did, how I did it and why I did it.
